Shafter 38, Frazier Mountain 39

It is never good to lose and losing to Frazier Mountain is especially hard because they are usually pretty bad. However, there are a couple of mitigating factors. First, this Frazier Mountain team is not bad. They had good size and athleticism and most of all, they shot very well. 24 of Frazier Mountain's 39 points came from three pointers. For the most part, those were contested shots. With few exceptions, Shafter's defense kept Frazier Mountain out of the paint and did a good job of getting after loose balls and rebounds. Second, offensively, the Generals were getting lots of shots inside both through penetration and passes to the bigs. When that happens, they will typically make layups or get fouled. In what I would regard as something of a fluke, neither of those things happened very much. The Generals missed a ton of 3 foot shots and the officials were not inclined to bail us out. In the second half, despite Shafter constantly going inside, Falcon defenders were only tagged with 3 fouls - one with 6 seconds left when they were trying to give one. Shafter shot no free throws in the second half.
