Shafter 53, Wasco 43

Beating Wasco is always pleasant. This one lasts all off-season.

It looks like senior Cristian Barrios went out with a bang. 27 points is a season high, career high, and the most points scored by anyone in a Shafter uniform in the last three seasons. Reminiscent of Alex Gonzalez's 24 point game in the last meeting with Wasco last year.

SHAFTER Barrios 27, C. Parsons 4, Hernandez 6, Auzurez 14, T. Parsons 2.

WASCO Alanis 7, Acosta 2, Salinas 6, Hinojosa 18, Rodriguez 10.

JV, FS Shafter d. Wasco

Barrios was white-hot from the opening tap. Greg Anzurez had perhaps his best game of the year as Shafter beat Wasco in all six games of the evening. Frosh-soph, JV, and varsity. Boys and girls. It is fun to beat Wasco ALL NIGHT LONG!

With his long memory, can the General place Barrios in his proper place among all-time General perimeter shooters? He looks like he's got to be near the top, career-wise. And may I chide the General for his few references to the Lady Generals who are SSL co-titlests this year? Of course, in the General's day, women knew their place.

Guilty as charged. The Bivouac has been limping to the end of the season this year, but there is no excuse for not recognizing the girls team. I need to do that.

Barrios has been a very good offensive player, but outside shooting wasn't the strength of his game. You might be thinking of Adrian Trujillo who came into the game averaging 3 3-pointers a game. He had a few games with 6 or 7 three pointers. I think the most impressive was a 6 for 8 night against BCHS. He is not the most accurate three point shooter in SHS history. His percentage was undoubtedly hurt by the team's need for triples trailing at the end of games. Still, his 30% is the best in the last few years.

It is possible that his 93 three pointers on varsity is the most by a Shafter player. The first challenger that comes to mind is Ralphie Santos. He played three years on varsity and was a good shooter. I don't have his soph. year stats, but in his final two years he had 56 threes, so he would have had to make 37 that year to equal Trujillo. Fabian Jimenez might be up there too. Matt Newby played three years and shot a lot of threes. Octavio Pitinio too. My guess is that they didn't shoot near the quantity of long balls that Wiebe's teams have.

It's an interesting question.
